Delta Flight Attendants: An Important Message Encouraging You To Vote For A Say In Your Airlines' Future

With the upcoming merger of Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines, flight attendants have an important decision to make on whether to be represented by the Association of Flight Attendants.  For lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender flight attendants and their families, this is an especially important decision to make.

In states like, Utah, Georgia, and Ohio, there are no state laws protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender workers from discrimination, harassment, and dismissal on the job.  Company policies are a great starting place, but are not enforceable by law.  For members of our community who live in states or countries where LGBT job protections are not encased by law, a union contract is the only way to ensure that our community receives fair and equitable treatment on the job.

For this reason, Pride At Work, our National Executive Board, staff, and over 6,000 members and allies across the country, ask all of our Delta Flight Attendant friends and family to get involved and vote for union representation in this important election about the future of both companies.

The Association of Flight Attendants has a long history of fighting for equity in benefits and treatments for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.  AFA was involved in fighting for domestic partner benefits at both American and United Airlines, and fought tooth and nail to make sure that flight attendants who have HIV were included in the protections garnered by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).  Finally, the AFA has been an essential partner in garnering job protections for flight attendants on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.

Quite frankly, LGBT flight attendants would be less protected from discrimination on the job without the industry-wide protections that the AFA and their members continue to fight for.

Ballots should be reaching the homes of flight attendants now.  For more information about the important choice flight attendants now face, and how to get your ballot.  Please visit here.
